Propagation of Convective Systems Associated with Early Morning Precipitation and Different Northerly Background Winds over Western Java

چکیده

Early morning precipitation (EMP) events occur most frequently during January and February over the northern coast of West Java are characterized by propagating systems originating from both inland offshore. The timing EMP is determined initial location, direction, speed precipitating system. This study explores processes that characterize such performing composite analysis real-case numerical simulations selected using Weather Research Forecasting (WRF) model with a cloud-permitting horizontal resolution 3 km. In analysis, classified according to strength northerly background wind (VBG), defined as 925 hPa meridional averaged an area covering western adjacent sea. We find under strong (SN) weak (WN) conditions, mainly induced system propagates sea land. For WN cases, however, propagate areas also play role. WRF suggest mechanisms akin cold pool propagation advection prevailing winds responsible for convection induces EMP, which explains dependence frequency on VBG. On basis simulations, we discuss roles breeze gravity waves in initiation convection.

Northerly surface winds over the eastern North Pacific Ocean in spring and summer

[1] Persistent spring and summer northerly surface winds are the defining climatological feature of the western coast of North America, especially south of the Oregon coast. Northerly surface winds are important for upwelling and a vast array of other biological, oceanic, and atmospheric processes. Intermittence in northerly coastal surface wind is characterized and wind events are quantitative...

The Cross-Equatorial Northerly Surge over the Maritime Continent and Its Relationship to Precipitation Patterns

This study describes the characteristics of the cross-equatorial northerly surge (CENS), a northerly flow that appears intermittently over the equatorial region between October and April, and its relationship to the precipitation patterns over the Maritime Continent. The CENS in this study was defined as the area-averaged northerly wind exceeding 5 m s 1 over 105 E–115 E, 5 S–EQ based on the Qu...
